King James didn’t want his career to be over. Speaking at the Times100 event, it felt like he was not ready to give up his playing days. He reluctantly answered questions regarding his playing days and his next move.
It felt that James wanted the world to know that he still wanted to play, and leaving the Lakers and joining the 76ers on a two-year deal with £8 million is not bad for a 41-year-old player who has probably got two years of playing time left.
Leaving the Lakers is a good idea because it felt that he was holding the young talent at the Lakers back, as the likes of Doncic and Reeves wanted to establish their own path and greatness for the franchise. Whereas LeBron was still stuck in a time the he thought he was a franchise player. Going to the 76ers and linking up with Embiid could potentially elevate the franchise and give them a good playoff run next season.
James believes that the 76ers could provide him with his fifth championship and could help the 76ers break their own 52-year title drought. This partnership could work, as James has playoff DNA and a championship mentality.
